Find out how we're helping to empower the future leaders in tech
Today we're launching our action plan in The Hague in the presence of Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and State Secretary for Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, Mona Keijzer. With this plan, we aim to transform the Netherlands into a country that enables future leaders in tech to build large companies for a better world. The plan has ambitious goals to achieve by 2023, Special Envoy Constantijn van Oranje explained the goals needed to be ambitious: “it is necessary to become Europe's best ecosystem”.
Why is it important to become Europe's best? Technology is the key to the future but it's the people behind it that hold the keys in their hand. At Techleap.nl we believe now more than ever its time to empower those people, the entrepreneurs, academics and change-makers. They deserve our support to rise to today's challenges - which are presented to us at a rate faster than ever. Keeping the Netherlands as an innovation leader with a global impact.
Hereby our ambitious goals:
- 15% increase in the number of internationally successful scaleups by 2023
- 25% decrease in the percentage of difficult-to-fill vacancies for software developers
- 10x increase in the available venture capital in the Netherlands
- Doubling of the number of deep-tech start-ups in the Netherlands.
With this plan, Techleap.nl wants to create the right conditions together with partners (investors, policymakers, scaleups and academia) in which companies can grow and internationalize rapidly. To this end, Techleap.nl will develop and accelerate new and existing programs and initiatives based on quantifying the ecosystem through data. These programs focus on improving access to capital, new markets, emerging technologies and talent for tech leaders.
Best Dutch scaleups
Actions that Techleap.nl will take in 2020 include: working with pension funds, banks and the government to explore new ways of financing, helping Dutch scaleups succeed internationally, and attracting more diverse international talent. Part of the plan is also the start of a growth program called the Access Program; for the 250 most promising scaleups in the Netherlands. This will give them access to international networks, specifically in the areas of the capital, talent and markets. The search for this top 250 was also officially opened this afternoon.
Number 1 ecosystem of Europe
Techleap.nl is part of a major government ambition to accelerate the growth and development of scaleups and make the Netherlands the best ecosystem in Europe. Besides Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and State Secretary for Economic Affairs and Climate, Mona Keijzer, Special Envoy Constantijn van Oranje, among others, spoke at the presentation of the plans.
During the launch, the new Supervisory Board of Techleap.nl will also be announced. This board will consist of Corinne Vigreux (co-founder of TomTom and Codam College), Steven Schuurman (founder Elastic), Gillian Tans (Chairman Booking.com), Jaap Beernink (Novel-T) and a representative of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate.
Special Envoy of Techleap.nl, His Royal Highness Prince Constantijn van Oranje: "Technology is essential for the future growth and competitiveness of the Netherlands, through the people that stimulate innovation and build world-class companies. We want to empower these smart minds and provide them with the best possible innovation ecosystem and support infrastructure.
